Happy anniversary! Celebrating 10 years of Wining with Mel

On July 18, 2015, I published my very first blog post. I was late to the blogging party, but I had just finished my Sommelier Fundamentals courses, and I didn’t want that to be the end of my wine journey. So, Wining with Mel was born! And with it, this mission statement:

…I do hope to answer these types of questions here, in a way that anyone can understand, even if wine isn’t your thing. For me, the point of this blog is simply to share my love of wine, and introduce you to the fabulous range of delicious wines available at reasonable prices. All too often, we get into wine habits, such as my aforementioned Malbec obsession of 2007. I hope this blog will inspire you to break those habits and try new things, whether you are a seasoned oenophile or your idea of a fine wine is Baby Duck.

Discovering a new favourite appellation in the Centre-Loire

My love for Loire Valley sauvignon blanc is no secret. To the point where I took time during my vacation last year to help harvest it. I am a dedicated fan. So when I have an opportunity to learn about much-loved appellations like Sancerre from the Centre-Loire, it doesn’t take much to convince me.

About a month ago, I received an invitation to attend a masterclass and walkaround tasting in Montréal, featuring the wines of the Centre-Loire. I hemmed and hawed about it for a while, since that is now a three-hour drive away after my move last year. But in the end, the idea of tasting a wide range of wines from a region I love won me over.

So on April 1, armed with podcasts and a playlist entitled Songs to Sing in the Car, off I went on a road trip to Montréal.

The leaves are changing colour and we are wayyyyyy overdue for a happy hour! Let’s say “hello fall” and meet on Zoom to taste some lesser known wines that will go perfectly with your Thanksgiving meal (yup, that holiday’s sneaking up quickly!).
